Welcome to the Department of Statistics at Manonmaniam Sundaranar University, the sole institution dedicated to the field of Statistics in the southern region of Tamil Nadu. Our department has been a proud part of the university since its inception in 1990.
 

We offer a range of academic programs to cater to diverse educational needs. Our offerings include M.Sc., M.Phil., and Ph.D. programs in Statistics, available in both full-time and part-time formats. Furthermore, in line with the implementation of the Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) for university Departments, we provide statistics courses to students from various disciplines.

Notable Achievements

• DST Funding: We are proud to have received a substantial grant of Rs. 45 lakhs from the Department of Science and Technology (DST), New Delhi, under the FIST (Funds for Improvement of Science and Technology Infrastructure) Program for the period 2019-2024.
• INSPIRE Fellowship: In 2021, Ms. Jenifer S.D. was awarded the prestigious INSPIRE Fellowship, a testament to our commitment to nurturing young talent.
• UGC Recognition - SAP DRS-II (2016 – 2021): The University Grants Commission (UGC) recognized our department as a Special Assistance Program (SAP) at the DRS-II level during the period 2016-2021. This recognition came with a grant of Rs. 37 lakhs and the appointment of one Project Fellow.
• UGC Recognition - SAP DRS-I (2010 – 2015): We also received UGC recognition as a SAP at the DRS-I level from 2010 to 2015, with a grant of Rs. 36 lakhs and one Project Fellow.
• DST Support (2005-2010): Another significant achievement was securing Rs. 15 lakhs in funding from the Department of Science and Technology (DST), New Delhi, under the FIST program from 2005 to 2010.
• UGC One-Time Grant: Dr. K. Senthamarai Kannan received a one-time grant of Rs. 7 lakhs from the UGC in recognition of his exceptional supervision of research scholars pursuing Ph.D. degrees during 2011-2012.
• UGC ENCORE Scheme: Our department was granted ONE Adjunct Faculty position by the UGC under the ENCORE scheme, reinforcing our commitment to academic excellence.
• Research Project Funding: We are proud to have secured financial support totaling Rs. 37.46 lakhs from the UGC for the successful execution of five Major Research Projects, each accompanied by a dedicated Project Fellow.
• Academic Events: Our commitment to academic growth is evident in our annual organization of Conferences, Seminars, Workshops, and Training Programs, including an International Conference and five National Conferences.
• Statistical Workshops: We actively contribute to the academic community by organizing annual workshops aimed at enhancing students' understanding and application of statistical methods within the Manonmaniam Sundaranar University Colleges.
• Research Output: Our dedicated faculty members and research scholars have collectively published 296 research papers in both international and national journals. Additionally, the department has published four Edited Volumes, and our faculty members have authored eight books, furthering our commitment to disseminating knowledge and expertise in the field of Statistics.
