The Department was launched in the year May 2000 as Centre for Information Technology (CIT) to offer IT courses capable of meeting the ever-changing need of the IT industry by providing them with up-to-date curriculum, well-trained faculty, excellent infrastructure, industry interaction and leadership qualities.
With the resounding success of the PG and certificate programmes, the university upgraded CIT into a full-fledged university department in 2002 and renamed the department as Centre for Information Technology and Engineering to offer M.Tech. course in Computer and Information Technology in both full-time and flexible-time modes to provide higher education opportunities for working lecturers in Engineering Colleges and IT professionals. 6 Year Integrated Course in Information and Communication Technologies (B.Tech. 4-year + M.Tech. 2-year) was started from 2007 onwards and in the year 2009 onwards the department is offering M.Phil. Information Technology.
With the present full-time faculty strength of 11 (One Senior Professor, One Associate Professor, 4 Assistant Professors, 5 Assistant Professors (T)), the Department is offering M.Sc. Information Technology, M.Tech., Computer and Information Technology and M.Phil., Information Technology and Ph.D., programmes. The department has launched M.Sc. Cyber Security from the academic year 2017-18 and M.Sc. Data Analytics from the academic year 2018-19 onwards.
